HIM-132 Reimbursement Methodologies
A comprehensive overview of billing for healthcare facility services using ICD-10-CM (International Classification of Diseases), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) codes to complete claim forms. The course will familiarize the student with health records and how documentation translates to the basics of medical coding, billing, insurance and proper reimbursement. HIM 132 also provides foundational knowledge of the revenue cycle management process as it relates to facilities and third-party payers (Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance). Students practice the elements of billing and gain an understanding of the role of a chargemaster in the billing cycle.
