AHS-107 Introduction to Surgical Technology

An introduction to the role of the Surgical Technologist. This course introduces techniques necessary during the surgical experience. Included are medical aseptic hand wash, scrubbing, gowning and gloving. The laboratory component allows the student to observe and in return demonstrate the principles and procedures taught in the classroom in a non-patient contact environment. There will be two 8-hour days of observation in the operating room in local area facilities. Successful completion of this course is required to matriculate into the Surgical Technology program. The course is Pass/No Pass grading. Acceptance into the Surgical Technology Program required for registration.
