ENG-241 British Literature to 1700

A selective introduction to British writers concentrating on such authors as Chaucer, Shakespeare, Spenser, and Milton. The emphasis is on understanding the way literature expresses moral ideas and values through the imaginative creation of characters.” New course description: “A selective survey of British literary works from the Middle Ages through the Seventeenth Century, with attention to their social/historical context and cultural significance. Literary works will be studied through careful reading, discussion, and written analysis.
