PSY-297D Special Topics in Psychology: Psychology Of War
An interdisciplinary discussion-based class. Novels and memoirs by veterans of the last century's wars, recent films, and classic and recent research studies will examine the psychological effects of war on combatants - especially those of dissonance, emotional numbing, and post-traumatic stress - both during and after service. They will also explore clinical services, support groups, creative writing, and political activism as approaches to healing. Designed for those who are comfortable reading both fiction and nonfiction and who wish to participate actively in small-group discussions.
