HSV-115 Introduction to Mental Health Worker

An entry-level course for students interested in gaining an overview of the skills and knowledge required for entry-level work in the behavioral health field. Topics covered will include symptoms and assessment of mental illness; aspects of recovery; case management and treatment techniques crisis intervention theory; co-morbid health problems; wellness and self-care strategies; community resources for individuals and family members. Treatment of dually diagnosed clients (mental health and substance use) will also be discussed. Legal and ethical issues, as well as cultural competence will be emphasized throughout this course.
