HSV-210 Addiction Counseling
An entry-level course for students interested in gaining an overview of basic addiction counseling theories and techniques. Students will develop basic knowledge of addiction treatment, with an emphasis on substance use, that includes: Causes of addiction; assessment, diagnosis, treatment techniques; wellness strategies for human service workers in order to prevent burnout; and community resources for individuals and family members. Treatment of dually diagnosed clients will also be discussed. Legal and ethical issues, as well as cultural competency will be emphasized throughout this course. Enrollment in Addiction Recovery Assistant program required.
