NUR-102 Physical and Mental Health II

The development of the Nurse of the Future Core Competencies with a greater understanding and application of nursing knowledge, therapeutic communication, safety, quality improvement and informatics and technology. The focus is on patient-centered care of individuals with acute and chronic physiological and psychosocial alterations across the lifespan. Critical thinking skills are enhanced in the collection and analysis of more complex types of data. Assessment and psychcomotor skills with increased dexterity are utilized in the planning and provision of patient-centered care in varied settings. The concepts of system-based practice and evidence-based practice are utilized along with the role of the nurse as a health care professional and leader with an emphasis on the developmental needs of patients. Student learning activities include journaling, case studies, pediatric case presentations, learning management system online assignments and test taking skills. Service learning activities are continued in this course and focus on health promotion and maintenance in a supervised setting. Prerequisite: BIO 201 and ENG 101 or ENG 103 and NUR 101 and PSY 107. Corequisite: BIO 202 and BIO 207 and PSY 204.
