Academic Integrity Policy

All academic material, including but not limited to assignments, exams, projects, quizzes, and discussion postings, will be held to the Berkshire Community College Code of Conduct, which can be found in the Berkshire Community College Student Policy Guide. Plagiarism or any other form of academic dishonesty will result in the student receiving a grade of 0 on the assignment or exam, and dismissal from the nursing program at Berkshire Community College.

Acts of academic dishonesty include the following:

  • Cheating - Deliberately using or attempting to use unauthorized assistance in any academic task, including relying on sources not approved by the instructor.
  • Fabrication - Intentionally falsifying or inventing information or citations in any academic task without authorization.
  • Unauthorized Collaboration - Submitting work that was collaboratively prepared with someone else without the instructor's explicit consent.
  • Facilitating Dishonesty - Intentionally aiding or attempting to assist another in committing an act of academic dishonesty, such as substituting for someone else during exams or presenting others' work as one's own.
  • Plagiarism - Representing another person’s words, ideas, or creative work as one’s own in any academic task, which includes reusing previously submitted assignments for credit, copying or purchasing others' work, patchworking sources to create a new work, or arranging for others to do the work under a false identity.

Student Rights and Responsibilities

Students are responsible for being aware of and understanding the BCC Academic Integrity Policy. Students have rights to due process and have the right to file a grievance if they feel that the nursing program’s action taken in the alleged incident abrogated their student rights.

Faculty Rights and Responsibilities

This policy recognizes the right of faculty to manage their class, including addressing student’s issues of academic dishonesty with the Dean and/or Director of Nursing. In addition, the charge of academic dishonesty shall be directly referred to the Dean of Students, which shall be completed, where practicable, within thirty (30) days.
