Advanced Placement or Transfer of Military Education, Training or Service for Military Health Care Occupation Policy
Berkshire Community College demonstrates its commitment to veterans seeking to pursue postsecondary credits consistent with the Massachusetts Valor Act signed into law on May 31, 2012. The College supports veteran students in their education and applicants who have military health care education, training, or service will be evaluated for advanced placement or transfer of previously completed course credit.
BCC will award academic credit for matriculated students for prior learning based on students’ previous military occupation, military training, coursework and experiences as these credits apply to their declared program of study.
BCC will determine the award of academic credit during the admissions process through a preliminary review and a final conclusive and comprehensive credit evaluation upon the submission of official transcripts, official standardized test score reports and other relevant documentation prior to a student’s enrollment.
Prospective or currently enrolled students seeking to receive college credit for prior learning based on past military occupation, training, experience or coursework should begin the process by the timely submission of official transcripts and documentation to the Admissions Office in advance of the start of classes. Once official documentation is received, the College will use the following methods to assess, evaluate and award academic credit for prior military-related experiences:
- ACE Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services
- Credit for prior learning evaluation
The evaluation shall be in accordance with existing Mass Transfer agreement policies. Students shall receive accurate and complete academic counseling Academic Advising and Coaching in collaboration with the Veterans’ Certifying Official.
Students may also seek additional credit for prior knowledge through:
- CLEP Examinations
- DANTES Subject Standardized Tests
As per our Course Exception Policy, the Nursing Programs adhere to the Advanced Standing and Non-Traditional Credit Options as specified in the college catalog in accepting non-nursing courses by course exemption. Nursing courses from any other college/institution are not accepted in lieu of BCC Nursing Program courses under the course exemption policy.
